Palliative Care And Massage

Palliative Care And Massage Therapy

Massage can offer gentle support for people receiving palliative or end-of-life care. It is not a treatment for illness—but it can create comfort, connection, and moments of peace.

Our therapists are experienced in adapting massage for people with complex or changing health needs. Sessions are tailored to the person’s physical and emotional state, using soft, calming touch with full respect for medical equipment, mobility, and consent.

Why Massage?

Palliative massage may help ease:

  • Tension or aching muscles
  • Fatigue and restlessness
  • Stress, sadness, or anxiety
  • Discomfort from being in one position
  • Emotional isolation

Sometimes the most meaningful outcome is not physical at all, but the simple experience of being cared for with warmth and presence.

A Gentle, Individual Approach

Every session is different. We work with what feels safe and comforting on the day. Many people prefer very light pressure, especially when living with pain, medical devices, or extreme fatigue.

We’ll always talk with you – and if you wish, your care team – before and after the session to make sure we’re supporting your needs appropriately.

Connection Through Touch

For some people, touch may be one of the last senses they continue to respond to. A hand held with care or a gentle stroke on the arm can be grounding and reassuring, even when words are no longer possible.

Massage is never just about the body—it’s about connection, dignity, and presence.

Working With Your Team

With your consent, we’re happy to liaise with your GP, hospital, hospice, or care team to ensure massage fits safely within your overall care plan. We welcome input from family, carers, and medical professionals to support a joined-up approach.

A Word on Medical Care

Massage is a complementary therapy – it doesn’t replace medical treatment. We always encourage clients to speak with their GP or neurologist if they’re unsure whether massage is right for them. We’re happy to work collaboratively with your wider support team where helpful.
