Neuro Massage is specialist, adapted massage for people living with neurological conditions, physical disabilities and complex care needs. It is the work we do every day at Neuro Massage, in clients’ homes, care settings and hospitals across London.
Who it is for
We work with people living with conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, FND and transverse myelitis, as well as people with physical disabilities or more than one condition. You can see the full list on our conditions page.
How it is different
A neuro massage therapist has training and experience in neurological conditions. They understand how a condition can affect movement, sensation, muscle tone, fatigue and communication, and they adapt the massage around it. In practice that might mean:
- Planning positioning around a wheelchair, bed or equipment
- Taking extra care in areas of reduced sensation
- Agreeing pressure and pace with you, and checking in throughout
- Watching for signs of fatigue and adjusting as we go
- Finding a way of communicating that works for you, including for people who aren’t verbal
- Involving family, carers or support workers if you would like
What a session can offer
Massage can help you relax, relieve everyday stress and promote a sense of wellbeing. Many clients also value attention to areas that feel tight or tense, and simply having time that is about them.
Finding the right therapist
It is important that your massage is given by someone experienced in neurological conditions. Before your first session, we talk through your needs, your medical history and what you would like from massage, and we can work alongside your care team with your consent.
Our team has many years of experience in neurological massage. If you would like to talk about whether it could suit you or someone you support, get in touch.
This article is for general interest and isn’t medical advice. Massage is a complementary approach and doesn’t replace care from your GP or medical team. Please speak to them before trying something new, especially if you have a health condition or take medication.
