Infant And Child Massage

Over the years I’ve had many children as clients, different ages, different conditions and injuries. The one common problem with arranging a massage therapist to treat your little one, is, as most parents know the younger they are the harder they are to keep still, so booking a one hour session isn’t really an option.
Many parents of children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy would like massage to be part of family life.
Massage with a young child can be challenging, because it is hard for them to stay still for long. I found the best way around this is teaching parents to massage their own child.
Instead of having a massage therapist visiting you and your child regularly and spending an hour massaging them, what often works best is giving mum, dad or the caregiver the tools to provide this service themselves.
How Often Should You Massage Your Child?
Many families find a short weekly, or even daily, massage becomes a calm part of the routine for both parent and child.
I often suggest making massage part of the bedtime routine, after a bath when your child is warm and relaxed. It can be a calm, close way to wind down together.
